We’ve been grounding.
In our homes,
In our hearts,
In the deepest sense.
We’ve been tending the soil
And cleaning into corners,
Creating meals from found items at the back of our cupboards.
Unearthing once favourite records
And tuning into each other,
Like never before.
We have grieved and have lost,
Met peace in a dew drop.
We’ve dug deep and found love
For each other;
For people and planet,
Said “We’re in this together”
We’ve queued at a distance
In scenes from the apocalypse.
Sent packages to loved ones
And written our wish lists.
We’ve been weeping and laughing
And ranting at the madness.
Applauding key workers,
Painting rainbows on our windows.
We’ve walked barefoot on grass
And given thanks for the dawn chorus
We’ve planted seeds for the future,
Held those we could touch tighter.
And while roads are much quieter,
Planes on the tarmac,
Our skies are clearer,
Birds seem to sing louder.
We’ve been grounding together,
Preparing to move forward,
To a new world rooted,
In fairness, in love and in tune with mother nature.
